Abdelkhalek Benalila, the visionary founder and General Manager of Morocco Luxury Camps, has a story deeply intertwined with the enchanting landscapes of his native village, M’Hamid. As a young boy walking the dusty streets on his way to school, he could never have foreseen that this humble desert village would become the birthplace of his grand undertaking. Yet, from an early age, Abdelkhalek dreamed of transforming his village into a thriving hub, complete with modern amenities, entertainment, and, most importantly, the tourist infrastructure that now distinguishes him as a pioneer in the region.
During school breaks, Abdelkhalek ventured into the uncharted territories of the desert, his heart drawn to the majestic dunes of Erg Lihoudi and Chegaga. With friends as his companions, he explored these vast sands on camelback and by foot, forging a deep connection to the land and its nomadic way of life.
Upon completing his education, Abdelkhalek returned to M’Hamid with a vision. He set out to organize camel treks and provide immersive experiences into the nomadic existence of the region. His first venture was the establishment of a standard camp, offering travelers a taste of the Sahara’s allure. Over time, in response to the evolving desires of both local employment and his cherished guests, he expanded his enterprise to include luxury camps, a kasbah, and eventually the renowned incoming agency, “Sahara Experience.”
Ever attuned to the needs of his patrons, Abdelkhalek’s Sahara Experience Group further diversified its offerings, adding a car rental agency and a tourist transport agency featuring expert Moroccan drivers, carefully selected from the ranks of the industry’s finest professionals.
Abdelkhalek’s vision has sparked the creation of over 100 permanent jobs and 200 seasonal positions. His unwavering objective is to showcase Morocco as a premier travel destination while fostering an Eco Tourism platform that reveres the natural environment and local communities.
